G-boats were the primary defence of the FV until Midway was destroyed by the Dissenters. They were small remote controlled ships with a powerful gravitic generator as their main weapon. The generator could be used to distort enemy targeting sensors, pull weapons off course, shake ships (and their crews) to pieces or drag them into moons and stars. The G-boat could destroy itself and an enemy fleet by becoming a small black hole inside an enemy formation. Nothing ever managed to get past the G-boats until the start of the Long war.

G-boats were powered directly by the local star and controlled either by a Local Ganglion or Midway. After the Dissenter attack they became inert. The Stranniks collected hundreds and attempted to salvage their high-tech interiors.
