Moths were originally built at Ferghana and St. Cloud with 616.5c FTL
engines and SL acceleration of 6.3gs . Moths carried 68 persons with food
to last for 90 days. 300m3 was available for cargo. Although designed
as a passenger transport, Moths were extremely versatile. The main types
were;
MK I Passenger transport
MK Ia Assigned to the flight schools as trainers.
MK Ib/c The "1b"s were used as mobile command vehicles with added communications
equipment. The "Ic"s were Sensor and Elint ships. Paggenger accommodation
was reduced to 15. No cargo was carried. The ship was not capable of entering
an atmosphere.
MK Id/Ie The "D" was an engineer's ship, and carried common spares and
a second crew to recover battle damaged ships. The "E" served as a hospital
ship, usually paired with a Heavy Freighter.
Mk 1f Freighter; accomodation for 10 crew, 2,200 m3 of cargo. Performance
of 4.14g fully loaded.
Mk II 24 were used as engine and weapons test-beds.
MK IIa "Hawkmoth" Catch-all designation for ships modified to carry weapons.
This includes the unmanned "Death's Head" guided missile.
