Midway was destroyed Uhlans were produced in great numbers in the panic
to get any ships into service. Uhlans are 7,000 m3 with 4 Scythe cannons
and 4 point defence twin laser turrets (omitted from later ships). They
cruise at 954c, carry 30 crew and have sublight fuel and food for 60 days
Externally, all types look the same
Uhlan MK I
Can carry a shuttle and has 900 m3 cargo capacity. Acceleration = 3.29g
Uhlan MK II
Cargo capacity reduced to 850 m3, engine power increased. Acceleration
= 5.4 gs
Lightning (Uhlan IV)
Built at Sabrata, the MK IV was a redesign optimised for speed. Armour
was eliminated, massive engines and fuel tanks were fitted, there were
no shuttles, only 200m3 of cargo was carried and it had only two Scythes.
It could accelerate at 63.18 gs, although the Inertial Compensator Radiator
Vanes glowed white if this was sustained. Rear weapons were not fitted,
it could out-accelerate a plasma wave.
Freighter
The Uhlan II without armour or Scythes made a useful light freighter,
able to carry 2,900 m3 of stores (41% of the ship's internal volume) It
could accelerate at 2.71gs
